MBBS Abroad Documents Checklist: What You Need Before You Apply
Applying for MBBS abroad involves more paperwork than most Tamil Nadu families expect. Missing or delayed documents can slow admission offers, fee payments, and visa processing. This checklist helps students and parents build a calm plan — before anyone asks for large payments.
Country and university rules differ. Always confirm the latest list with the university and the embassy / visa process for that year. Before you collect papers — decide the path carefully
Documents are easier when the family has already shortlisted countries and universities for the right reasons: recognition for Indian students, teaching language, total cost, living expenses, and the path back to practice in India. Academic documents
- 10th mark sheet and certificate (original + attested copies)
- 12th mark sheet and certificate (original + attested copies)
- School / transfer certificate and migration certificate if asked
- NEET score card — required for MBBS abroad eligibility under current Indian regulations for most pathways
- Provisional certificates if final certificates are delayed (only if the university accepts them)
Keep name spelling identical across all certificates and the passport. Small mismatches (initials, order of names, “Kumar” vs “Kumaran”) cause big delays at attestation and visa stages. Fix mismatches through school or board channels early, not the week before travel.
DigiLocker and digital copies
Many Indian mark sheets and certificates are available on DigiLocker. Download clear PDFs early and keep a backup on a family cloud folder. DigiLocker copies help for Indian processes and loans; some foreign universities still want physical originals plus attestation or apostille. Do both: DigiLocker downloads plus physical originals in a labelled pouch.
Name files simply (example: 12th-marksheet.pdf, neet-scorecard.pdf) so nothing gets lost in WhatsApp chats. Share one organised folder with parents — not twenty scattered images.
Identity and travel documents
- Valid passport with enough remaining validity for the full study plan (renew early if needed)
- Passport-size photographs as per university and visa size rules
- Aadhaar / ID proof for Indian processes and banking
- Student visa forms and supporting papers for the destination country
- Police clearance certificate if the country or university asks for it

Medical and eligibility documents
- Medical fitness certificate from an authorised doctor
- HIV test and other medical tests required by that country’s visa rules
- Vaccination records if requested
- Eligibility / related certificates where Indian regulatory guidelines require them for that year
Medical test lists change by country. Do not reuse an old report if the embassy needs a recent date. Complete tests only after you know the visa filing window, so reports stay valid.
Financial documents
- Bank statements or financial proof as required for visa processing
- Fee payment receipts from the university (keep every payment proof)
- Education loan sanction letter if you are financing through a bank
- Sponsor letters or affidavit formats if the university / embassy asks for them
- Insurance documents when travel or health cover is mandatory

Attestation and apostille — start early
Some certificates need notarisation, university attestation, state authentication, or apostille depending on the country. These steps take weeks, not days. Start early.
