TNEA Open Category (OC) vs Management Quota Fee Difference Explained

TNEA counselling (state quota) seats
Fees for seats allotted through TNEA are regulated by the Tamil Nadu government. All students allotted through TNEA pay this regulated fee — whether OC, BC, or SC category. Only the scholarship/fee waiver on top of this may differ.
Management quota seats
Colleges are allowed to fill a portion of their seats through their own management admission process. These seats have higher fees — sometimes 3-5 times the regulated TNEA fee. Students who get management quota seats pay more.
How to know which seat you have
Your TNEA allotment order will specify that you were allotted through state counselling. If you are applying directly to a college for management quota, they will tell you explicitly that it is management quota with different fees. Never assume the fees are same — always get the breakup in writing.
Red flag
If a college asks you to top up your TNEA allotment fee with extra cash for processing, that is illegal. Pay only the regulated fee through official channels. Report suspicious demands to the helpline number given in TNEA information booklet.
