Common Mistakes That Make Students Lose Scholarships in Tamil Nadu
Published: 19 August 2026. Thousands of Tamil Nadu students miss scholarships every year because of avoidable mistakes. Here are the most common ones.
Mistake 1: Missing the deadline
National Scholarship Portal and Tamil Nadu scholarship portals have strict deadlines. Even one day late means your application is rejected. Set three reminders: 30 days, 7 days, and 1 day before the deadline.
Mistake 2: Uploading wrong documents
- Uploading Class 10 mark sheet when Class 12 is required
- Uploading expired income certificate (most certificates must not be older than 1 year)
- Uploading a blurry or incomplete scan
Mistake 3: Bank account mismatch
The bank account must be in the student name, Aadhaar-linked, and IFSC must match the selected bank. Many families put parent account — this causes rejection. Open a student bank account before applying.
Mistake 4: Applying on wrong portal
National scholarships go on scholarships.gov.in; Tamil Nadu state scholarships may have their own portal. Applying on the wrong portal means the application goes nowhere.
Mistake 5: Not renewing
Most scholarships require annual renewal. Students forget to renew after first year and lose the benefit for years 2, 3, and 4.
