Parents Guide: How to Support NEET Preparation at Home
Published: 19 August 2026. NEET preparation is stressful for students. Parents can make it better or worse. This guide gives simple, practical advice for parents.
What parents can do
- Provide a quiet study space: Reduce TV noise, visitors, and disturbances during study hours
- Ensure good nutrition: Regular meals, hydration — not energy drinks. Brain function depends on food.
- Respect the schedule: Let the student set their own study routine, even if it feels unusual
- Keep devices managed together: Discuss phone/social media time rather than banning and creating sneaking habits
- Attend parent meetings at the coaching centre if applicable
What parents should avoid
- Comparing with neighbours or relatives who cracked NEET — every student is different
- Asking how much did you study today every evening — it creates anxiety not motivation
- Sharing their own stress about fees and college with the student constantly
- Threatening extreme consequences if the student does not clear in one attempt
If the student looks stressed
Talk. Ask what is difficult, not just about NEET but in general. If stress is very high, consult a counsellor. See NEET drop year and mental health.
