How to Prepare for TNEA Choice Filling: Practical Steps
Published: 19 August 2026. Choice filling is the most important step in TNEA counselling. A well-prepared list can get you a good seat. A rushed list can leave you with a mismatch. Here is how to prepare.
Step 1: Fix your filters first
- Which cities or districts can your family practically support for 4 years?
- What is the maximum total yearly fee your family can manage (tuition plus hostel plus food)?
- Which branches genuinely interest you or fit your career plan?
Step 2: Research colleges
- Check AICTE approval status at aicte-india.org
- Check if college is NBA accredited (for branch quality)
- Ask the college directly for placement data, not just brochures
- Ask seniors if possible
Step 3: Build a three-zone list
- Dream zone (top 30%): Colleges and branches you really want but cutoff may be higher than your rank
- Realistic zone (middle 50%): Colleges where your rank has a genuine chance
- Safe zone (bottom 20%): Colleges where your rank comfortably falls
Step 4: Enter in the portal
Put higher preferences first, lower preferences last. Double-check every entry before submission. Save a screenshot of your final list.
