How to Decide Between MBBS and Engineering After 12th

The honest difference
- MBBS: 5.5 years plus 3 years PG (if specialising). Total of 8-10 years before peak earning. High exam pressure (NEET, then licensing, then PG entrance). Deep clinical work with patients.
- Engineering: 4 years B.E./B.Tech, can enter job market quickly. Many branches lead to software jobs in 4 years. Also have PG options (M.Tech, MBA).
Questions that matter more than perceived status
- Does the student genuinely like Biology and want to work with patients? If yes — medicine is right. If it is only about status or family pressure — reconsider.
- What are the NEET and Maths/PCM scores realistically? This narrows the option naturally.
- What is the family financial position for 5.5 years of MBBS (vs 4 years engineering)?
- Is the student comfortable with years of postgraduate study before good income?
When both are genuinely possible
If NEET score allows MBBS and 12th marks allow engineering, then interest, financial reality, and career preference should drive the decision — not peer pressure or what sounds better.
