First Graduate Certificate for TNEA: Who Needs It and How to Get It

Who qualifies as first graduate
If neither of your parents has completed a degree-level education (diploma, bachelor, or higher), you are considered a first-generation graduate. The exact definition is given in the TNEA information booklet for the current year — always confirm with the official document.
What is the benefit?
First graduate status may give a small weightage in merit ranking or preference in tiebreaker situations for government and aided college seats. The benefit details change slightly each year — check the current TNEA rules.
How to get the certificate
- Apply at the school where the student studied (headmaster or principal can issue a certificate stating parents educational status)
- Or get it from the local tahsildar / MRO office based on an affidavit or declaration
- Some districts have a specific format — ask your school or nearest e-Sevai centre
When to apply
