TNEA 2026: Common Document Errors That Delay Admission
Published: 19 August 2026. Many students lose time or even seats because of preventable document errors. Here are the most common ones and how to fix them early.
Name mismatch across certificates
Your name on the 10th mark sheet, 12th mark sheet, and community certificate must be identical. Even a small difference (for example, Suresh vs K. Suresh) can require a correction affidavit or school letter — which takes time. Fix this before counselling opens.
Community certificate issues
- Certificate expired (community certificates in Tamil Nadu have a validity period)
- Wrong sub-caste mentioned
- Issued by wrong authority

Transfer certificate missing or with errors
TC must show correct name, date of birth, and last school attended. If you studied in another state, the TC must be countersigned by Tamil Nadu if required by the current year rules.
Aadhaar name not matching
Aadhaar name must match certificates. If it does not, update Aadhaar (at Aadhaar Seva Kendra) or follow the TNEA instructions for Aadhaar mismatch cases. See Aadhaar name mismatch guide.
First graduate certificate
If you are claiming first graduate benefit, get the certificate from the proper school or government authority early. Last-minute applications for this often fail.
