How to Choose the Best Engineering College in Your District Tamil Nadu
Published: 19 August 2026. Not every student can or wants to go to a college far from home. Choosing the best college in your district is a smart, practical decision. Here is how to evaluate.
Step 1: Is it AICTE approved?
Check aicte-india.org for current approval status. A college without AICTE approval means your degree may not be valid for government jobs or further studies. This is the most basic check.
Step 2: Is the branch NBA accredited?
NBA (National Board of Accreditation) accreditation for the specific branch you want is a quality indicator. Many companies and government institutions require NBA-accredited programs for recruitment. Check the NBA website (nbaind.org).
Step 3: Placement data
Ask the placement office: How many students from your branch got placed last year? What was the average and median CTC? Which companies visited? Be sceptical of 100% placement claims — ask for verifiable data.
Step 4: Fee structure in writing
Get the full fee breakup on official college letterhead. Include tuition, hostel, mess, lab, exam fees, and deposits. Calculate 4-year total before deciding.
Step 5: Student and alumni feedback
Talk to current students or recent graduates from the college — not just the ones the college introduces to you. Ask about labs, faculty, hostel hygiene, and campus safety.
